Let’s Make Soup!

Now is the time to get chopping and make some soup – here is why :-

NUTRITIOUS

Of course this would be my number one reason! A bowl of homemade soup is a great way to get more vegetables into your diet, and whizzing, pureeing or chopped makes them easier to eat.

EASY

It really is hard to go wrong with soup, just chop your vegetables and throw into a pan / slow cooker / soup maker with some stock, a few beans or pulses and half an hour or so later it’s ready! Soup keeps well in the fridge for a few days and is brilliant to put in the freezer so always make more than you need.

WARMING

Now that summer has well and truly left us salads might not seem as appetising but a comforting bowl of soup for lunch will warm you up and keep you energised through the afternoon.

FILLING

Studies have demonstrated that soup has satiating properties so induce a greater feeling of fullness compared with a solid meal.

HYDRATING

In the colder months we might not feel as thirsty but soup can help to keep fluids up.

HEALTHY

Chicken soup has been considered a remedy for colds for centuries, and some research suggests that the anti-inflammatory properties together with the nutrients provided could actually help to ease symptoms and shorten the length of upper respiratory tract infections. The key ingredients were chicken, celery, onions, carrots, mushrooms, parsnips, parsley, sage, thyme and pepper.
