A Sneaky Insight into the
World of Nutrition

Food Focus - Ginger

Add some ginger to your diet!

Ginger is a rich source of antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory effects on the body. Studies show that ginger can reduce the pain associated with muscle injury after exercising.

Ginger can also help with nausea, support healthy digestion and absorption, widen blood vessels and improve blood flow, regulate blood sugar and may improve brain function.

Recipe ideas: -

Ginger Tea (fantastic if you have a cold or sore throat or just want to warm up!) Simply grate some fresh ginger into a mug, cover with boiling water, let it rest for a few minutes, add some lemon juice and a little honey, sieve and enjoy

Curries – use fresh grated ginger or powder

Biscuits (www.penarthnutrition.co.uk/recipes/ginger-and-turmeric-biscuits)

Spicy Chicken – (www.penarthnutrition.co.uk/blog/spicy-stew)

Stir fries

Salad dressings – add grated ginger to tamari, sesame oil and crushed garlic

Crumble – add to a rhubarb crumble – delicious

Overnight oats / porridge – ginger works really well with poached apple or pears and tastes wonderful in the morning.
